Is it time for bangs?

Deciding whether or not bangs are a good hair style choice for you can be a hard decision. Knowing a little about what goes into a hairstyle with bangs will help you decide if they are for you or not.

Bangs are high maintenance, requiring styling every day. If you’re new to bangs, they will take a little more attention at the start to train them. If you have cowlicks near your front hairline, they may effect the bangs and require more styling time.

Is your lifestyle appropriate for bangs? Bangs can be in your face, so if you bend over often at work your bangs might get in your way. Bangs need to be trimmed fairly often as well, so if you are very busy it may be difficult to visit XEX regularly for a trim.

Your face shape also effects the style of bangs that works best for you. Oval-shaped faces are the best for bangs, but your XEX stylist will work with your face shape to create great bangs. Below are a few face shape/bang styles.

Heart-Shaped Face

If you have a heart-shaped face, your XEX stylist will work to decrease the width of the forehead with a longer, wispier bang.

Oval-Shaped Face

If you have an oval-shaped face, you can wear just about any bang style. A full blunt bang works beautifully with a oval-shaped face.

Square-Shaped Face

Your XEX stylist will work to soften or round out a square-shaped face to create a great bang style. A fuller bang with a side-part often works well for square-shaped faces.

Round-Shaped Face

Long side-swept bangs that draw attention downwards and add length to the face work great for round-shaped faces.

There are many other styles of bangs, but these styles should provide some examples of what may work well for your face shape.

When styling your bangs, don’t forget to use product. Be careful not to use too much though. A great tip is to add product to the rest of your hair first and then distribute it to the bang area. Start styling your bangs when they are wet so you can achieve your desired look. Only use a flat iron on dry bangs, as it will damage your hair if the hair is wet.

A full blunt bang can be ached by using a small or medium round brush. It adds a slight bend to the hair. Use a medium or large round brush straight up off the hairline and back to achieve a long, side-swept bang.

Once you’ve styled your hair, use hairspray to ensure the style holds.
