MY XEX LoginAll your parties and family gatherings are piling up! Luckily, I’ve found the perfect outfits (dresses, skirts, blouses, oh yay!) shoes, and jewelry. Now I just need to find the perfect hairstyles, but there are so many choices! I am obsessed with earrings this season, so I’ve used that useful tool (the lovely world wide web)
to see what earrings my favorite celebrities are pairing with their hairstyles.
Here’s what I’ve found so far;
Hoop - With thin, unadorned hoop earrings, a high ponytail looks very chic & stylish.

Simple Stones- Updo with Braids. I don’t want to overwhelm the darling studs so simplicity looks key!
Chandelier- My current favorite actress, Emma Stone, rocks the chandelier look! With a classic chignon or a sexy deep side part I can create a sultry look.
So which is your favorite? Fortunately, I’m fully confident I can sport each of these looks with the amount of events coming up!

Austin and I took a trip to the Grand Canyon last April for my birthday. It was incredible. On our way, we drove through Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico until finally making our way to Arizona. Driving through New Mexico and Arizona, we saw billions of souvenir stands offering turquoise rings, cactus, and other “Navajo-inspired” goods. Of course, a lot of it was of poor quality, but it was interesting to browse and compare prices. When we finally made it to Arizona, the southwest goods were more expensive and definitely of higher quality. Austin and I spent hours looking at dreamcatchers, horse saddles, and totem figures.
Now that I’ve planned a trip to Texas in March, I’m itching to buy myself some of the goods that I saw in Arizona. I’ve never worn southwest-inspired pieces (besides cowboy boots), but I feel like my spring wardrobe could use a little help. I’m going to ditch my skinny jeans for some southwest-inspired clothing items.
Nothing says southwest like a poncho, and this is one of the best ponchos I’ve ever seen:

This poncho from the 1970s would compliment nearly any out-fit. I would love to wear it over a short dress or a pair of vintage Levi’s shorts.

The shorts and southwest long sleeve jacket pictured above are both available for purchase on GypsySun Vintage’s Etsy. If I was just a size smaller, I would buy these shorts in a heartbeat. They are perfect. Also, I love the bulkiness of this southwest jacket. I could definitely curl up inside it while attending a barbecue or doing some other outdoor activity in early spring.
What seals a southwest out-fit is a piece of striking jewelry that has some southern charm to it. These two necklaces from Early Jewelry (based out of Lawrence, KS) would be perfect for a southwest look:

What look are you going for this spring?
Lately I’ve been gravitating toward out-fits that show off a little more of my body than my boyfriend might like. I mean, of course he likes the out-fits and how I look in them, but it definitely isn’t safe to wear the dresses that I’ve been eyeballing in the last few weeks on the streets of Chicago (or the subway, for that matter). For example, I stopped by American Apparel on New Years Eve to see if I could find something that would show off my new figure (I’ve lost 20 pounds in the last six months or so and all of my old dresses look a little baggy), and I fell in love with this completely sheer lace dress:

I kept looking at myself in the mirror wondering what I could wear underneath it to make it still look presentable. Jane Birkin wore plenty of sheer dresses (sometimes with nothing on underneath) and looked gorgeous in them. Surely I can do the same! The only difference: I’m sure Jane Birkin had plenty of bodyguards around to shoo away unwanted suitors. I, however, only have my darling boyfriend and sharp tongue to protect me, and I’d rather not put either of those at risk.
Another girl who gets away with wearing sheer dresses is my favorite fashion blogger Rumi Neely.

Maybe the trick is to find a sheer dress with a looser fit. I didn’t plan on making any New Year’s resolutions for 2011, but I might as well encourage myself to step out of my clothing comfort zone a bit this year. I should definitely attempt to wear a sheer dress while I’m still young enough to do so.
Could you wear a sheer dress?

No color says sexy like black. Nothing is classier or more simple. Nothing will drive your love interest more crazy than a gorgeous black dress or *gasp* a matching black underwear set. For this post, I decided to pick out some of my favorite sexy black items that I’ve seen floating around on the internet. Give yourself or your boyfriend a present by purchasing one of these items or something like it. Also, a classic black dress for New Years is always something to think about. It’s just around the corner, after all. For example, this Marcia Tuxedo Dress from Nasty Gal (pictured above) is affordable (only $88) and extremely sexy with its sheer top. You’ll make all of the girls at the New Years party wish they would’ve spent more time picking out their dresses once you show up in this little number. Plus, if you’re looking to get yourself a kiss at midnight, this dress will do the trick. Nasty Gal also has a bunch of other adorable dresses that you should browse if you like the one pictured above. They have some really incredible pieces that are a great price for a night out.
These over-the-knee patent leather stockings are out of control:

Watch out Catwoman. I’m not entirely sure how to find these, but I’d love to find out. They were featured on the Dixi blog this morning along with this baby doll dress:
I’d like to get both pieces and wear them together. This dress looks like something that Jane Birkin would’ve worn in the 60s. I love the simplicity of it. The peter pan collar gives the dress its innocence while the length of the dress gives it sexiness. I’ve always loved a good baby doll dress, and this is no exception. Sign me up! I’ll keep you posted if I find out how to purchase these pieces. They look expensive, but I’m hoping they’re in my price range. If not, I can always splurge.

As usual, I saved my favorite piece for last. This balconette bra is precious. The detailing makes it worth all $225 you put into it. Can you believe the little lace on the straps? This may not be a bra that you wear every day under t-shirts, but it’s definitely a bra that you could save for special occasions or wear under a party dress. All of the underwear pieces from designer brand La Perla are gorgeous and elaborate.
This holiday season, get glamorous with a sexy black dress or accessory. You and your main squeeze will thank me later.

I thought that I was content with my huge faux fur hat for the season until I saw all of these images of lovely knit hats and scarves. This hat worn by Rumi of Fashion Toast is more of a turban that your average winter hat. I love this knit turban because it looks extremely warm and chic. It’s hard to pull off both with one winter accessory. I haven’t seen too many turbans in stores, so the best bet for finding one is online at this point. For example, Joanna Goddard at A Cup of Jo is giving away this luxury cashmere turban by British brand Verdel on her website:
All that you have to do to be considered is to leave a comment on her post. A winner will be chosen at random on Monday. Good luck! If you don’t win, however, you should still browse the selection on Verdel’s website. They have some incredible hats and gloves for sale. They’re a bit on the pricey side, but Christmas is coming up. I think they’re worth the purchase for a hat that you’ll be able to wear next winter as well.

How adorable is this beanie featured in Vanidad? This whole photo shoot shows extremely doable layering for women wanting to look casual and sophisticated this winter. If you have trouble making casual layers look fashionable (like me), check out the rest of the photos on Rackk and Ruin and get some pointers. Of course, models always make everything look effortless, but try it out yourself. You can be a fashionista, too! I love her makeup for the shoot as well. I’ve been wearing more and more dark makeup around my eyes and less around my mouth. It’s important to accentuate one facial characteristic with makeup. You can overdo the eyes or the mouth but never both. Too much drama is never a good thing.
I saved my favorite big knit accessory for last. These bow scarves are amazing and would completely compliment my style. Want, want, want:

Juliette Hogan’s Fall 2010 collection appropriately titled “So Pretty It Hurts” is perfect for girly girls. I would wear every piece in her collection (especially the pieces with the oversized bows). She even has a lavender cape in the collection that is held together with an oversized bow.
Big knits aren’t only for big girls; they’re for the little ones, too. I love this pink hoodie:

This hoodie, along with a bunch of other affordable wear for children, is available on Liddle’s Etsy shop. If you need to buy any clothing for little ones this Christmas, I would suggest you do it here.
I hope you all have a great weekend. I’m heading home to play a show with some friends. Wish me luck on my flight (I’m terrified).
